When and how did you find jiu-jitsu?

Around 2020, I joined a gym because they offered Muay Thai. I had already been training boxing and Muay Thai for over 20 years, but I noticed they also had jiu-jitsu classes. Tried it once, got hooked almost immediately, and never really looked back after that.

What keeps you coming back?

At this point, it's just part of my lifestyle. It gives me a good balance to my everyday life, and I've always been super competitive when it comes to sports. Jiu-jitsu keeps challenging me every single time I step on the mat.

BJJ pulls people from all kinds of backgrounds onto the same mat — what do you do during the week?

During the week I work as a social worker and team leader.

What do you do when you're not on the mat?

I spend a lot of time with my family and also enjoy being out in the garden. I'm really into vinyl records and have a pretty big collection — mostly hardcore, punk, and rocksteady stuff. Other than that, I'm into creative things like drawing, tattoos, and a lot of subculture music in general.

What are you into right now? Book, movie, show, music — whatever.

Right now I'm really into a music project with some friends. We started a punk rock band where I get to do vocals and scream my lungs out a little bit.

What's something people at the gym wouldn't guess about you?

I've actually got a small secret collection of German Schlager records from the '70s and '80s at home. Most people at the gym probably wouldn't expect that from me.
